Wood veneer markets: what changes for buyers from one country to the next

Reference hub · Last reviewed October 23, 2026

A veneer order is written for the market where the veneer is pressed and installed. The species and cut travel unchanged, but the grade standard, the import papers, the fire rule for the finished panel and even the units on the order change from one country to the next. This hub compares the markets and links to a buyer guide for each.

How to use the market pages

Each page answers the same questions for one market: who buys veneer there, which standards appear in the order, which import and legality papers are needed, how duty is checked, which fire and emission rules apply to the finished panel. It ends with the usual packing, Incoterm and payment habits. The standards and compliance pages, such as veneer import documents and the EN 13501-1 Euroclass page, go deeper on single rules.

Market pages are buyer guides for the destination. They do not rank or recommend countries of origin; the species reference covers where each wood usually comes from.

Frequently asked questions

Does the country of the buyer change the veneer spec?

Yes. The species and cut may stay the same, but the grade standard, the import papers, the fire classification of the finished panel and the units on the order change with the market. Write the spec for the market where the veneer will be pressed and installed.

Is CITES the same in every country?

The CITES appendices are shared, but each party applies them through its own law. The EU uses its own annexes and asks importers for an import permit for Annex A and B species, while the US relies on the foreign export permit for most Appendix II timber. Check the rules of the importing country.
